Dryad's Saddle
Polyporus squamosus (recently MISidentified as Cerioporus, which it CLEARLY is not, since Cerioporus are flattened crust fungus which grow on surfaces, NOT a projecting polypore fungus)
Dryad's Saddle is a very large growing mushroom, which dries well, and makes good animal feed in larger sizes, for cows, pigs, goats, sheep, and for limited use with chickens, guineas, turkeys, and quail. It is edible for people in the smaller sizes. Has some medicinal lore. May be useful for preventing parasites in farm animals.
This large mushroom is said to smell like watermelon rind, and makes a tasty dried cinnamon chip. It should be picked with the caps not more than a few inches across for human consumption, or it gets tough.
This mushroom may help speed up metabolism, enhancing weight loss, and as such, care should be taken to avoid overconsumption if it causes noticeable changes.
We carry Dryad's Saddle mushroom spawn in our Mushroom Store.
