Bicolor Bolete
Boletus bicolor, Hortiboletus rubellus, and a few other multi-colored species (Baorangia bicolor is not a valid name)
Bicolor Boletes are a controversial mushroom, with several lookalikes, some edible, some not.
Bicolor Boletes are considered to be safe edibles by many people, and suspect by others who are suspicious of red capped Boletes.
We are careful about identification with this mushroom, looking for the bicolored stipe, and the brightly colored cap with yellow spore tubes.
If you are eating this mushroom for the first time, or collecting it in a new area, it is recommended that you consume only a small amount, and do not combine it with other unfamiliar or first time mushrooms, so that you may be sure of your ID. This mushroom may also produce a reaction in some people who are sensitive, but it is not a deadly one.
Bicolor Boletes may be good sized, and taste very similar to King Boletes. They have the same tube type spore surfaces that other Boletes have. They dry well, and may be frozen to keep them.
