Porcini Mushroom
Specific Varieties: King Bolete (Boletus edulis), Bicolor Bolete (Boletus bicolor), Bay Bolete (Boletus badius [Imleria is not a correct term, it is NOT a mushroom genus]), Rocky Mountain Red King (Boletus rubriceps), Barrows Bolete (Boletus barrowsii), and others.
Not commonly raised in mass cultivation, this mushroom requires living tree roots on which to colonize. Has long been thought to be too difficult to cultivate - we thought differently, and developed methods to do so.
Boletes are prized in Italy, and used around the world. They are a favorite of mushroom hunters. Flavors can vary some, but they generally have a pleasant flavor, ranging from mild to deep.
Key identifier for the Bolete species is smooth or suede cap, spore tubes, and reticulated stipe. Other Boletus type genera do not have a reticulated stipe, they will have spotted, scabered, or smooth stipe. Boletus species may stain when bruised, or not, and this is a key identifier for species.
Good for pigs, goats, cattle, sheep, ok for chickens and turkeys and quail. Mushrooms in general can help with animal health.
- King Bolete may help the body metabolize fats instead of storing them.
- Bicolor may help the body metabolize stored fats.
- Bay Bolete may help skin repair itself after injury.
Many Boletus species are now available in our Mushroom Store.
