Meadow Mushroom
Meadow Mushrooms (Agaricus Campestris) is a popular wild mushroom across much of the world. Known as "Pinks" in parts of the world, they are a simple white button, with gills that are pale pink early on, turning brighter, then darkening to a deep chocolate brown on maturity.
They grow in the spring to the fall, after rains. They like areas that receive some sun, and tend to fruit on disturbed ground where the grass is not too thick. They love manure and will often grow on pastures.
This mushroom can be used like commercial white buttons, but tends to be healthier if taken from untreated fields or lawns (avoid pesticided or herbicided lawns). It is also a wonderful mushroom for container gardens, and will grow well where there are grass clippings, and will grow and fruit in 6" or larger containers. Temple Gardens Strain will grow in 4" containers.
Gills of this mushroom are anti-bacterial. It has also been shown to have insulin enhancing effects.
